Commission on Cultural Affairs Presents Shake and Stroll – Shakespeare in the Park at Camp Salmen

The inaugural event Shake and Stroll – Shakespeare in the Park, will take place on both Saturday, July 11 and Sunday, July 12, 2015 at 5:30 p.m., in Camp Salmen Nature Park, located at 35122 Parish Parkway in Slidell. The Commission on Cultural Affairs and 30 by Ninety Theatre, based in Mandeville, will present scenes from Shakespeare’s more popular works along the scenic nature trails within the park. This event is free and open to the public.

Visitors will begin at the Camp Salmen pavilion where a guide will set the stage for the upcoming scene as he leads you down the nature trail to the site of the first performance. The scenes will come from four separate plays that include: Macbeth, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Much Ado About Nothing, and Romeo and Juliet.

“This event will give families a chance to come out and enjoy the beauty of Camp Salmen Nature Park, while experiencing the cultural richness that adds so much to our quality of life here in our community,” said Pat Brister, St. Tammany Parish President. “This innovative collaboration will offer an evening of relaxation in a lovely setting, and a great opportunity to explore the park and learn more about the performing arts in St. Tammany.”

Small tours of 20–30 people will leave the pavilion approximately every fifteen minutes beginning at 5:30 p.m. with the last tour expected to leave at 6:30 p.m. The event will culminate with the final scene at the amphitheater located on the scenic banks of Bayou Liberty. It is anticipated that it will take approximately one hour to Shake and Stroll through the park. Visitors are encouraged to pack a picnic and bring beverages. The paths are not paved, so wear comfortable walking shoes!
